Global energy consumption in 2018 surged nearly double the average
rate of growth since 2010, driven by a sturdy global economy and higher heating
and cooling needs in several parts of the world. Even though the renewable
energy harvesting and utilization is growing at faster pace demand for all
conventional fuels increased. Higher electricity demand was the major
contributor in this. Energy efficiency saw lack lustre improvement. As a result
of higher energy consumption, CO2 emissions rose 1.7% last year and hit a new
record. Effects of this increase in emissions are well understood by all stakeholders of this earth very well and are trying out in all possible ways to
reduce the same.
Out of different strategies employed, awareness was found as one of the
best since the implementation of the same requires very less investment. Even
application of this awareness strategy at right place will yield further more
fruitful results. Exactly speaking awareness regarding importance of adapting green concepts at school level itself will accelerate
the activity.
Many schools have already started working towards greening in one or
other way but are due to lack of funds, guidance, further motivation the
results were getting delivered at very slow pace. To accelerate this and to support
(even financially) the schools in implementing
green concepts many organizations are providing great opportunities through competitions. One such program where I came to know is CII IGBC’s “Green your school program 2019”
